Record snowfall amounts have taken a toll on Mau Marine, an Okoboji-based marine product retailer and storage facility. The first collapse took place on the evening of Saturday, Jan. 22. According to co-owner Julie Mau, who was out of town at the time of the first incident, the weight of ice and snow caused the destruction of what is known as "Pier 71," a structure located between the trestle and Highway 71 bridges, housing mostly large Sea Ray Cruisers in the summer boating season.

"These vessels are customer-owned and provide a home away from home for many families from surrounding communities including Sioux Falls, Omaha, and Des Moines," Mau said. "Not only do folks park their boats in the slips under the canopy, but most of them sleep aboard these vessels on most summer weekend nights."

A second collapse took place on or about the evening of Monday, Feb. 9, causing significant structural damage to the marina's warehouse located to the east of Mau Maurine's main office structure.

You would think that they would have cleaned off the roof. Especially after the first one fell in.
