Dickinson County News: High School Sports: Knights go 2-1 to wrap up TLC/NWC action (02/03/10)

The Graettinger/Terril wrestling team finished 2-1 overall, scoring wins over Pocahontas Area/Pomeroy-Palmer and Twin River Valley to wrap up Twin Lakes Conference/Northwest Conference dual action Thursday, Jan. 28 in Pocahontas.

The Knights pulled out a 46-23 win over over the host Indians and a 60-16 dual victory over the Thunder, but dropped a 46-27 decision to Rockwell City-Lytton/Southern Cal in the middle dual of the meet.

"I thought that we wrestled well and got better as the night went on," said Graettinger/Terril wrestling coach Cody Alesch. "The kids wrestled hard against Pocahontas Area and we won most of the close matches. We need to be more controlling in some positions by next weeks sectionals though."

G/T opened up with five wins in a row against Pocahontas Area/P-P. Trent Lundgren (125) and Heath Marchand (140) won decisions while Ryan Schany (135) and Michael Jensen (145) scored falls. Tym Hart also won by forfeit at 130 pounds.

Trailing 24-0, the Indians cut the deficit down to six points with two forfeits and a pinfall.

The Knights won five of the final six matches to put the Indians away. Coming away with wins were Quinn Parker (189), Nate Howard (215), Tyler Dalen (103), Austin Thompson (112) and Connor Tonderum (119).

RC-L/Southern Cal captured nine wins against G/T, including four by fall. G/T came away with four falls and one decision.

Marchand won by fall over Andrew Clark in 2:55 and Jensen pinned Tanner Toms in 1:21 to tie the match at 12 early on.

The Wildcats won five straight matches to take a commanding 36-12 lead before Howard tossed Travis Delance in a minute, 13 seconds. Also coming away with late wins were Dalen and Lundgren. Dalen won a 4-0 decision over Chase Goodman and Lundgren pinned Trey Eddy in 2:55.

The final dual between G/T and TRV featured only two head-to-head matches. The Knights won 10 matches by forfeit, but lost a pair of bouts at 112 and 140. Peyton Vote pinned Marchand in 3:09 and second-ranked Brance Simms won a 10-2 major decision over Thompson.
