Nina Peterson Wood

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2010, at Grace Lutheran Church in Spirit lake for Nina Peterson Wood of Spirit Lake and formerly of Royal.

Rev. Charles Gilbert officiated the service, with interment at Willow Creek Cemetery in Royal.

Nina Peterson Wood was born October 1, 1909 at Linn Grove, to Andrew Peter Mathison and Fay Pierce Mathison. She received her education in Royal, graduating in 1927.

On June 19, 1929 she married Carl Peterson. They farmed in the Royal area for many years. Carl passed away May 31, 1957.

Nina married V. J. (Chubb) Wood March 18, 1962 and they lived in Calumet for several years. The built a home on Spirit Lake in 1966 where Chubb passed away November 9, 1986.

Nina was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, serving as president of the GLCW for two years as well as heading the Elderberries.

She passed away on January 10, 2010, at Hilltop Care Center. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, three brothers and two sisters.

Surviving are her daughter Jean Mengel and husband, Darwin, and granddaughter, Linda Mengel, all of Mesa, Ariz.
