Memory Walk thanks

Wednesday, October 28, 2009

What a wonderful and generous community we live in, the support for the Iowa Lakes Memory Walk and the people that have Alzheimer's in our community and their family was phenomenal. Cornerstone band played music for our event and gave it such an extra special touch, they are a wonderful group and we were so happy to have them share their time and talent. It takes a lot of people and supporters to put together such an event and our community stepped up to the plate to make this happen.

Thanks to our generous local sponsors; Farmer's Savings Bank, Iowa Lakes Electric, Farmer's Trust Bank, Spencer Hospital, Hilltop Care Center, Pure Fishing and Keelson Harbour for being Pacesetter's for the event. Thanks also to our starting block sponsors Investment Centers of America Leonard Langer, Wild Rose Casino, Graham Tire, Dermus Skin care, Cycle Country, Siri and Phil Christy and Family, Security Trust Bank, Good Samaritan Society, Longhouse Northshire, Rosewood Manor, Emmetsburg Care Center, United Community Bank, Lakes Regional healthcare, Spirit Lake Kiwanis Club, Home Instead Senior Care, Sandy and Mark Anderson and Family, VFW Post 3159 Spencer, Methodist Manor, SMU and Jon and Cindy Anderson.

We are building some great programs in Northwest Iowa and the funds from Memory Walk will go to help support these programs and services. Each month the in-home respite program grows. We are now averaging over 150 hours of respite care a month. This is such an important service as it gives the caregiver a much needed break. This is a friendship and companionship program that is so important for the caregiver and the person with Alzheimer's disease.

Thanks also to Fareway, Hy-Vee, and Wal-Mart for providing food for after our walk and to Sunshine Services in Spencer for providing bottled water for the walk and passing it out to the walkers. We had 16 teams that participated in the walk and we had at least one team from each of the five counties I represent in Northwest Iowa. We are building a great team and I am so proud to be a part of it. Thank you for your generous support and for reaching out to help those with Alzheimer's disease and their families. Together we can make a difference and warm the hearts of those we help.
