Lakes area drug bust lands 66 pounds of pot

Two Michigan men were arrested Sunday, Sept. 20 following a report of a suspicious vehicle on private property. The Dickinson County Sheriff's Office was dispatched to the 2100 block of 160th Avenue at 3:35 p.m., where officers observed a marijuana-like substance inside the vehicle. A subsequent search revealed approximately 66 pounds of unprocessed marijuana plants.

Arrested were Joseph Lee Bates, 35, of Shelby, Mich. and Christopher Allen Bates, 23, of Muskegon, Mich. Each was charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, manufacture of a controlled substance, conspiracy to deliver a controlled substance and drug tax stamp violation, all class "D" felonies. They were also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, a simple misdemeanor.

In the course of a follow-up investigation, 48-year-old Michele Denise Arnold-Wolcott of Muskegon, Mich., was charged with conspiracy to manufacture a controlled substance, a class "D" felony.

The Dickinson County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Milford Police Department and the Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement.

It should be noted a criminal charge is merely an accusation and the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.


Two arrested on drug charges

On Sunday, Sept. 20 at approximately 9:12 p.m. Spirit Lake Police were dispatched to 707 Lake Street Apartment No. 2 for a trespassing complaint. A subsequent investigation ensued, and a search of the residence revealed a green, leafy substance believed to be marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Arrested were Valerie Loerch, 47, of Spirit Lake and David Hughes, 45, of Spencer. They were transported to the Dickinson County Jail.

Hughes is charged with domestic assault, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, trespassing and interference with official acts.

Loerch is charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The Spirit Lake Police Department was assisted by the Dickinson County Sheriff's Office.

Hoffman arrested for drug possession

The Dickinson County Sheriff's Office arrested Jeremy John Hoffman of Milford on Sept. 12 at approximately 10 p.m. following a traffic stop near the intersection of 21st Street and Denver Ave in Spirit Lake, where his vehicle was searched. Sheriff's Deputies found methamphetamine and marijuana along with drug paraphernalia in his vehicle.

Hoffman was charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia and was booked into the Dickinson County Jail.

Minnesota men arrested on drug charges

The Dickinson County Sheriff's Office arrested two Round Lake, Minn. men for possession of marijuana on Sept. 4 at 5:35 pm.

Joshua Fields, 22, and Jeffery Fields, 23, were arrested near the Highway 86 and Highway 9 intersection. Both were arrested on warrants, and after a vehicle search, marijuana was found. The two were booked into the Dickinson County Jail.

- Robert Lewis Alexander, 20, of Sutherland was arrested for possession of a controlled substance - marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia at 6:09 p.m. Aug. 24

- Ashley Jane Fields, 23, of Spirit Lake was arrested for possession of a controlled substance - marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia at 6:09 p.m. Aug. 24.

- Allen Richard Schmeling, 57, of Spirit Lake was arrested for OWI - 3rd offense, a class D felony at 4:05 p.m. Aug. 26.

- Eric Dean Triplet, 28, of Danbury was arrested for driving under suspension and cited for open container at noon on Aug. 27.

- Jeffrey D. Larson, 49, of Milford was arrested for OWI - 2nd offense and cited for open container and speeding at 7:03 p.m. Aug. 25.

- Nathan Ryan Bjorklund, 23, of Spirit Lake was arrested for possession of a controlled substance - marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia at 7:20 p.m. Aug. 27.

- Tiffany Kayann Alexander, 22, of Spirit Lake was arrested for possession of a controlled substance - marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia at 7:20 p.m. Aug. 27.

- Roland Daniel Taylor, 37, of Dequincy, La. was arrested for driving without a license at 4:30 p.m. Aug. 20.

- Amanda Esther Renee Taylor, 24, of Spirit Lake was arrested for theft - 2nd degree at 9:30 a.m. Aug. 26.

- Joshua David Carlson, 35, of Spirit Lake was arrested for disorderly conduct at 1:55 a.m. Aug. 29.

- Ryan Ray Ruden, 33, of Spirit Lake was arrested for OWI - first offense and disorderly conduct at 1:55 a.m. Aug. 29.

- Chad Michael Maurer, 42, of Oak Grove, Mo. was arrested for OWI - 3rd offense and driving while revoked and cited for speeding at 11 p.m. Sept. 6.

- Saul Rivera Perez, 36, address unknown, was arrested for identity theft, driving without a license and no insurance and was cited for failing to stop at a stop sign at 10:07 a.m. Sept. 3.

- Barry Kent Selland, 36, of Spirit Lake was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia at 2 p.m. Sept. 3.

- Kirk Daniel Crosby, 37, of Spirit Lake was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia at 5:09 p.m. Sept. 4.

- Ryan Ron Sadler, 39, of Ida Grove was arrested for OWI - first offense at 2:47 a.m. Sept. 13.

- David L. Titmus, 23, of Spirit Lake was arrested for public intoxication at 3 a.m. Sept. 14.

- Vickie L. Benson, 50, of Windom, Minn. was arrested for OWI - second offense and improper use of lanes at 2:32 a.m. Sept. 21.
