Rollover accident injures five

The Dickinson County Sheriff's Office investigated a single vehicle accident Aug. 23 that occurred at 11:45 p.m. near the intersection of 280 Ave and 175 St. on the south side of Lily Lake.

A 1998 Ford Expedition was driven eastbound on 175 St. by Terry Brown, 31, of Ruthven. Brown lost control of the vehicle on a curve and rolled the vehicle.

A search was conducted by area law enforcement, fire and rescue personnel. One of the injured people from the accident was eventually located in a field. The driver, Terry Brown, fled the scene.

Brown was arrested on Aug. 25 in Spirit Lake by the Sheriff's Office. Brown is charged with leaving the scene of a personal injury accident, reckless driving, failure to maintain control and no Insurance - accident related.

There was $15,000 damage estimated to the Expedition registered to Eric Jordan.

Those injured were Terry Brown (driver), non-incapacitating injuries; Johnathon Sutherland, 24, of Ruthven, Incapacitating injuries, transported by Helicopter to McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls; Eric Jordan, 27, of Spencer, possible injuries; Tiffany Wiggins, 19, of Hartley, possible injuries; and Katie Flannegan, 21, of Emmetsburg, non-incapacitating injuries, transported to LRH by ambulance.

The Dickinson County Sheriff's Office thanks the following for their assistance on scene: Spirit Lake Police, Arnolds Park Police, Superior Fire Department, Arnolds Park Fire Department, Spirit Lake and Terril Ambulance and Bob's Tow and Repair of Spirit Lake.

Wide load on semi strikes bicyclist

An Omaha woman was struck in the head by an unknown object on a wide load semi Monday, Aug. 24 in Spirit Lake.

According to Spirit Lake Police, Marsha Marie Moyer, 54, of Omaha, Neb. was eastbound on the sidewalk along Hwy. 71 near Lincoln Avenue when she was struck in the head by an unknown object which was on a semi owned by Gene Myers Trucking of Waterville that was carrying a wide load. The driver of the semi was Eugene John Myers, 66, of Ferryville, Wisc.

Moyer was transported to Lakes Regional Healthcare by private vehicle.

No damage was reported to either the semi or the bicycle.

Bjorklund arrested for marijuana possession

The Dickinson County Sheriff's Office arrested Nathan Bjorklund, 23, of Spirit Lake on Aug. 28. Bjorklund was stopped on a traffic stop and marijuana was found on a vehicle search. Bjorklund was booked into the Dickinson County Jail on charges of possession of a controlled substance.

The sheriff's office thanks the Milford and Spirit Lake Police for their assistance.

On Thursday, Aug. 27 at approximately 8 p.m., the search of a residence on Erie Ave. in Spirit Lake was conducted between the Spirit Lake Police Department and the Dickinson County Sheriff's Department after a brief investigation. Police arrested 23-year-old Nathan Ryan Bjorklund and 22-year-old Tiffany Kayann Alexander, both of Spirit Lake. A search of the residence turned up a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana and several items of drug paraphernalia.

Bjorklund and Alexander were each charged with possession of a controlled substance - marijuana, a serious misdemeanor and possession of drug paraphernalia, a simple misdemeanor.

All persons are innocent until proven guilty.
