Two arrested for drug possession

On Aug. 24 at approximately 6:11 p.m., the Spirit Lake Police Department went to 606 Lake Street Apt. No. 8, reference a report of the aroma of burnt marijuana coming from the residence. A subsequent investigation ensued and a search of the residence revealed a green plant like material believed to be marijuana.

Ashley Jane Fields, 23, of Spirit Lake and Robert Lewis Alexander, 29, of Sutherland were both arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance - marijuana, a serious misdemeanor, and possession of drug paraphernalia, a simple misdemeanor.

The Spirit Lake Police Department was assisted by the Dickinson County Sheriff's Office.

It should be noted a criminal charge is merely an accusation and the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.


SL teen injured in moped collision

A Spirit Lake teen was taken by ambulance to Lakes Regional Healthcare and transferred to Spencer Hospital following a car vs. moped collision Monday evening in Spirit Lake.

According to Spirit Lake Police, Kyle Andrew Erb, 15, was traveling east on 16th Street when he lost control of the 2009 Honda moped he was driving and collided with a legally parked 1988 Chevrolet truck owned by Converged Technologies, LLC of Spirit Lake.

Damages were listed at $2,000 to the moped and $750 to the truck.

The extent of Erb's injuries are unknown.

The accident occurred shortly after 7 p.m.


Wide load on semi strikes bicyclist

An Omaha woman was struck in the head by an unknown object on a wide load semi Monday evening in Spirit Lake.

According to Spirit Lake Police, Marsha Marie Moyer, 54, of Omaha, Neb. was eastbound on the sidewalk along Hwy. 71 near Lincoln Avenue when she was struck in the head by an unknown object which was on a semi owned by Gene Myers Trucking of Waterville that was carrying a wide load. The driver of the semi was Eugene John Myers, 66, of Ferryville, Wisc.

Moyer was transported to Lakes Regional Healthcare by private vehicle.

No damage was reported to either the semi or the bicycle.

- Roberto Sanchez Benavidos, 39, of Spirit Lake was arrested for driving while barred and no insurance at 2:13 p.m. Aug. 15.

- Scott Patrick Hassel, 39, of Spirit Lake was arrested for driving while barred and no insurance at 7:44 p.m. Aug. 15.

- Cody L. Taylor, 24, of Spirit Lake was arrested for violation of a no contact order at 1:53 a.m. Aug. 16.

- Guadalupe Cindhel Lenz, 22, of St. James, Minn. was arrested for theft - exercising control, conspiracy and theft - 4th degree at 6:36 p.m. Aug. 17.

- Perla Edith Garza, 27, of St. James, Minn. was arrested for theft - exercising control, conspiracy and theft - 4th degree at 6:36 p.m. Aug. 17.

- Raul Nolan Schooley, Jr., of St. James, Minn. was arrested for theft - exercising control, conspiracy and theft - 4th degree at 6:36 p.m. Aug. 17.

- Clint Donald Fales, 40, of Milford was arrested for aiding and abetting at 2:45 p.m. Aug. 18.

- Amy Kay Walker, 32, of Spirit Lake was arrested for disorderly conduct and interference with official acts at 2:10 p.m. Aug. 18.

- Herman Hicks, Jr., 35, of Holt, Fla. was arrested for OWI - first offense and careless driving at 11:50 p.m. Aug. 19.

- Michael J. Hackbarth, 42, of Milford was arrested for OWI - first offense at 1:53 a.m. Aug. 20.

- Nicholas Klatt, 29, of Melvin was arrested on warrants at 11 a.m. Aug. 20.

- Leonardo R. Avila, 38, of Spirit Lake was arrested for OWI - 1st offense at 2:24 a.m. Aug. .22.
