The conference continues its 10-day event through the week, concluding this weekend, Aug. 7-9. The weekend's featured speaker is Dave Johnson, pastor of the Church of the Open Door in suburban Minneapolis.
Popular soloist Steve Green will present the closing concert on Sunday evening, Aug. 9. All evening sessions begin at 7:15 p.m. in the large open-air auditorium at 69 W. Broadway in Arnolds Park, with 10:30 a.m. morning sessions. For additional information phone (712) 332-2883 or log on to www.okobojiconference.org.
As Steve celebrates 25 years in the Christian music industry, Steve fondly remembers his fledgling beginning, the son of missionary parents raised in South America.
"Twenty-five years is a significant marker," Steve muses. "I've been able to communicate the gospel in almost 50 countries around the world, and as God gives grace and strength, I look forward to many years to come. There are more songs to record, more people who need to hear God's truth and more segments of our culture to be redeemed."
Providing the setting and developing as well as presenting tools to enhance and equip individuals and families to make a difference for 75 years, the conference is very alive and has a great deal to celebrate.
At its conception, much needed Bible-centered preaching and encouragement for Christian living was shared over the technology of the age, the radio airwaves. The Sunday morning broadcaster and conference founder, Dr. R.R. Brown, literally brought his listeners together by starting this centrally located, summer conference.
He had no way of knowing his efforts would affect so many for the years that it has already. Among those affected include some of his own family. Scottie May, Dr. Brown's granddaughter, is a member of the leadership team as well as chair of the conference board. The Thursday, Aug. 6, evening session speaker, Cristy Bruns, a leader of seminars and workshops from California is his great-granddaughter.
With sessions open to everyone, organizers invite all to join the Okoboji Bible Conference's 75th birthday party.
