Tea party planned

Wednesday, June 24, 2009

President Obama inherited an economic disaster. Decades of open-ended lines of credit for state and government have helped to cause this mess. If we were to manage our homes as our elected officials have governed, we'd be bankrupt or in jail for fraud.

The signs are clear. Decisions being made in DC are giving little to no confidence to those on Wall Street or to Joe the Plumber on Main Street. Trillion dollar spending. Trillion dollar bailouts. Many state with multi-billion dollar deficits. Is there an end in sight to all this debt?

What's needed? I'm not an economist. It seems logical though that if you have massive spending and massive debt, somewhere cuts needed to be made. Cut taxes, cut spending, cut the size of state and local government, stop borrowing from China, stop borrowing our money and the money from future generations.

This country is still the beacon of hope to others around the world. How we respond to this economic situation will greatly affect our influence in the world. Like many of you, I have concerns about taxes, government spending, healthcare, energy, immigration and social security (just to name a few).

There is an upcoming opportunity for us to celebrate our freedom. An Independence Day Tea Party will be held July 4, at the Carnegie Coffeehouse, in Spirit Lake (across from the courthouse). We'll meet from 10:30 a.m. -- 1 p.m. There will be live music, local speakers discussing issues that we can all stand up for. My family will be there. I hope to see you and your family there too!

Respectfully submitted,

Jon Miller
