The Dickinson County Sheriff's Office has charged Travis Slade Janzen, 20, of Spirit Lake with burglary in the second degree and reckless use of a firearm. The charges stem from a burglary investigation of a rural Spirit Lake home on May 18. No one was present at the home at the time of the burglary.

According to the police report, Janzen entered the residence, stole items and fired a rifle into the walls inside the home. Janzen was located and arrested by the Spirit Lake Police Department on May 18. Janzen was in possession of the stolen property from the residence.

The Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Spirit lake Police and the Jackson County Sheriff's Office.

All persons are innocent until proven guilty.

Milford firefighters respond to tree fire

The Milford Community Fire Department was called to 1704 Edgewood Drive in Wahpeton for a report of a tree on fire at 1:21 p.m. Wednesday, June 3. Upon arrival a small area of brush surrounding a tree was on fire, which was caused by a pile of brush being burned nearby.

The brush and tree were quickly extinguished and the general area was wet down to help prevent further spread of the fire.
