Memorial Day success

Wednesday, June 3, 2009

I would be totally remiss if I failed to express my thanks and gratitude to all who participated in making our Memorial Day Tribute and Parade such a phenomenal success.

Kudos to the American Legion Post and VFW Post members for their continued dedication and service to our community, the County Supervisors for their roll and tenacity in providing us with such an edifice on which to back-drop the ceremonies, to all the volunteers: the High School band, the Junior High band, the vocalists, Marilyn Strickland for the beautiful banner, the entire military group, the Auxiliary, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, convertibles and drivers, EMC, Fire Department, Shriners, John Tonsfeldt for his contribution as speaker for this event, the Spirit Lake Police Dept., dignitaries, Court House custodian, Bob Boettcher for providing a golf cart and making my work much easier.

And last but not least my gratitude to the press and KUOO for keeping the public informed of this great event. Especially to you, our community, for your presence and the exuberance you expressed for this great day. My thanks to the VFW and American Legion Auxiliaries for providing a climax to the whole event with their offering of hot dogs and drinks for the multitude.

If I have failed to recognize any participants please accept my apology. May God bless you all and may God bless the USA.

Sam Andersen, Parade Coordinator
