American Legion Post #371 of Lake Park will be having Memorial Day program at 10 a.m. Monday, May 25 at the Harris-Lake Park MS/HS Auditorium. Retired Brig. General Allen J. Smith will be the guest speaker. Following the program at the school, there will be a dedication service at the Silver Lake Cemetery. The public is encouraged to attend.
The American Legion family will be putting up the Avenue of Flags at 7:30 a.m. May 25 and retiring them at 5 p.m. the same day at the Silver Lake Cemetery. The community is encouraged to come either time or both and help honor veterans with hanging their flags.
Milford
The American Legion Post #384 of Milford will host a Memorial Day service at 11 a.m. Monday, May 25 at Florence Park. The event will include guest speaker Karl Kiilsholm and reading of this year's list of flags dedicated to the Avenue of Flags program. Members of Post #384 will present a 21 gun salute to all deceased and fallen comrades.
The public is invited to attend the service. There will be no cemetery services.
Spirit Lake
American Legion Timpe Post #23 and the VFW John W. Kidd Post 4514 invite all Dickinson County residents to the Memorial Day Program and parade to be held Monday, May 25.
This year, the Memorial Day program returns to the lawn of the Dickinson County Courthouse. The program begins at 9:55 a.m. Master of Ceremonies is Commander Denny L Perry. The Spirit Lake Band will open the program with the National Anthem, followed by the invocation. The guest speaker will be John Tonsfeldt.
Following the program, there will be a parade down Hill Ave. The 2009 grand marshal is Marvin Sorum, W.W.II veteran who served more than 20 years and logged over 3,400 hours flying C47, C46, B25, C45 and C54 aircraft. At the conclusion of the parade, the public is invited to the VFW hall for hot dogs and soda. In case of rain, the program will be held at the Spirit Lake Sami Center.
