Okoboji is known far and wide for the great live music acts that come to the Lakes area. Playing this weekend are The Senders, Dueling Pianos and Too Drunk to Fish at The Barefoot Bar, Urban Myth at Captain's Getaway, Under the Covers at The Gardens, Sallgood at Okoboji Boat Works and The Fabulous Traidmarx at Ruebin's Theatre.

Getting intimate with Under the Covers

Playing at The Gardens in Arnolds Park this weekend is Under the Covers, a Minneapolis-based band covering dance-inspiring songs from Nirvana to Pat Benatar.

The band formed about six years ago and has a female lead singer along with several musicians who have played with musicians Prince and Vince Gill. Under the Covers' drummer was in the Marine Corps band and even played on "American Idol."

"Every song that we pick we pride ourselves on if people will dance to it," said musician Dave Phipps, a former Lakes resident. "It's not so hard rock that it puts people off... We can't stand bands who play a song, then take a drink and tell a lame joke. We keep the music going for people."

Those looking for a band they can dance to can see Under the Covers three nights Memorial Day Weekend - Friday, Saturday and Sunday at The Gardens.

"We do a little of everything as long as you can dance to it," said Phipps. "We've got great harmonies and a female singer that vocally resembles Janis Joplin -- And we'll have a super high-energy show for you."
