Harriet M. Gildemeister

Funeral services were held May 16 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Spirit Lake for Harriet M. Gildemeister, 78, of Spirit Lake, who passed away Thursday, May 14, 2009, at her home in Spirit Lake.

Harriet was born on March 19, 1931, in Minneapolis, Minn., to William and Emilie (Adelman) Leonard.

Harriet graduated from Edison High School in Minneapolis, Minn., in 1948. She was united in marriage to Martin J. Johnson in 1948. Martin passed away in 1965. Harriet married Dick Gildemeister in 1967. Dick passed away April 23, 2009.

Harriet owned and operated the Kurio Kastle in Arnolds Park for 10 years. She enjoyed spending her spare time quilting, painting, gardening and was an avid golfer.

Harriet is survived by a son, Russel Johnson and his wife Taffy of Sioux Falls, S.D.; two daughters, Cathy Heinsius and her husband Chuck, of Cedar Rapids, and Marilyn Cravens and her husband James of Sanborn; two step-daughters, Diane Dykema and her husband Dennis of Spirit Lake, and Kathie Erbes and her friend Susan Goulding of Minneapolis, Minn.; seven grandchildren, Elizabeth Cosier and husband Zac and their daughter Claire, Eric Johnson, Chris Fowler and wife Jen, Emilie Cravens and her husband Jesse Tack, Katie Cravens and husband Ramon Soto, Lynn Ver Woert and her children Natalie and Allison, and Mark Dykema and wife Shari and their children Jack and Jennifer.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Martin J. Johnson; her second husband, Dick Gildemeister; a sister; and a brother.
