DNR, local law enforcement respond to Monday evening boat accident

The DNR and several Lakes area emergency response units were on hand when a 32-foot Advantage boat capsized between an Okoboji public boat ramp and Mau Maurine on East Lake Okoboji Monday evening. Jeff Morrison, a state conservation officer with the DNR, says crews responded at around 6:30 p.m. ...

Brian Downing will have to change his colors at Dickinson County sporting events -- the 1996 Spirit Lake graduate was recently named the new high school principal at Okoboji, where they wear a different shade of red. He succeeds Mike Schmitz, who retired after six years in Milford. Downing said he became aware of the opening through Okoboji Superintendent Bob Miller and middle school principal Ryan Cunningham. The administrators have a mutual interest in education technology, he said...
Johnson remembered for rowing, love of life

Family members in northwest Iowa and a college family in Kansas are mourning the loss of Angie Johnson, a Wichita State University graduate and all-region rower on the Shocker crew team. She passed away in a June 29 car crash at the age of 24.
