Meet Bob Kirschbaum, Bob Kirschbaum and ... well... Bob Kirschbaum. Yes, in fact, they are all related.
Former Spencer principal Bob Kirschbaum recently shared the story of the three Bob Kirschbaums with the Dickinson County News. Not long ago, Kirschbaum began a new career working for the American Red Cross found it notable that the trio of Bobs had a connection to the organization.

The Spirit Lake football team couldn't contain senior running back Theo Bartman, who rushed for 245 yards and three touchdowns, to propel Class 2A No. 8 Western Christian to a 41-0 victory Friday, Sept. 25 in District 1 play at Hafer Field. The Okoboji football team ran into a defensive powerhouse in Class 2A District 2 co-leader Pocahontas Area/Pomeroy-Palmer, managing just 101 total yards and 2.2 yards per play in a 35-6 setback to the Indians Friday in Pocahontas. The area's Senior Networking Alliance will host its first Senior Health Expo this weekend. The expo is scheduled for 9 a.m.- 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3 at the Spirit Lake Senior Center. The event is free, and attendees may come and go as they please.

A celebration of life was held Friday, Sept. 25 at Schuchert Funeral Home for William "Bill" Wirtanen, 64, of Spirit Lake, who passed away Sunday, Sept. 20, 2009, at his home in Spirit Lake.
He was born on Sept. 7, 1945, in Cleveland, Ohio, to William and Miriam (Laakso) Wirtanen.

Funeral services were held Sept. 19 at the Turner Funeral Home in Spirit Lake for Bill Ray Coultier, 64, who passed away recently.
Rev. Gerald Gauthier officiated. Private family interment services will be held at a later date.
End of the World

My best friend's husband used to joke that he was going to have the song "It's the end of the world as we know it" played at their wedding reception.
In a way, I guess he was right, his world as a bachelor had ended and he was about to embark on an entirely new and different world as a married man. (As a side note, the song did play ten years ago at their wedding, and they are still married.)

Ambassador drive thanks

Goodwill Industries of Sioux City wishes to take this opportunity to thank the many donors who contributed to the recent Ambassador drives in Lake Park and Spirit Lake. During your last Ambassador drive, community Ambassador volunteers helped to collect 9,920 pounds (Lake Park) and 23,268 pounds (Spirit Lake) of donated materials which will be distributed to any or all of our 16 Goodwill regional store locations.
An enchanting ride

I wish to thank the Arnolds Park Amusement Park for hiring the Bulgarian girl who gave my wife and I an extra long ride on the Ferris Wheel this past summer. The sunset was a ravishing red as she ushered us into our swinging gondola car with a politeness generally unheard of on this side of the Atlantic.

It seems that a "race war" is brewing between those who oppose President Obama policies and those who favor them.
First, former President Carter accused those who do not agree with President Obama of disliking him because they can't stand to have a black person as President.
