Collision sends deputy to hospital

A two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Highway 9 and Peoria Avenue in Spirit Lake sent a Sheriff's deputy to the hospital on Tuesday morning. At approximately 8:48 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 18, Scott Arndt was driving an Interstate Power and Light international truck northbound on Peoria Avenue.
Cocktails case complicates Smokefree Air Act interpretation

The Iowa Alcoholic Beverages Division is considering a 14-day suspension for Cocktails in Arnolds Park for violations of the Iowa Smokefree Air Act.
The hearing complaint for Cocktails lists several potential violations and alleges that "the licensee's open and continuing failure to comply with all applicable provisions of the Smokefree Air Act... is sufficient grounds for the suspension and/or revocation of the liquor license."
Historic Arnolds Park board boasts bandshell plan

"16 To Life," written and directed by Okoboji native and Emmy-nominated director Becky Smith and Executive Produced by Iowa businessman Terry Trimpe, will screen in Okoboji on Sept. 5 at Pearson Lakes Art Center at 7:30 p.m. with a number of actors in the film in attendance.

A celebration of life service will be held at 5 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 20 at Spotsylvania Presbyterian Church for Richard Allen Lyall, 55, of Fredericksburg, formerly of Dickinson County, who passed away Thursday, Aug. 13, 2009 at his home after a battle with brain cancer.

I buy your paper every week I am at the Lakes, and that is almost every weekend during the summer. I enjoy the paper very much. It is well written, varied and many times thought provoking. One thing, however, I have missed lately. Mr. LaFoy used to appear on a weekly basis, but now he is only to be read once a month. I am curious as to why that has happened. Have he and his wife been on vacation? Has he been ill?...
