Local lakes removed, added back to DNR 'outstanding' list (08/05/09)
Officials with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) are calling for input on water quality designations for waterbodies throughout the state at a meeting scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 3 at 6 p.m. in Mahan Hall at Iowa Lakeside Laboratory. As a result of a series of meetings held December 2008 through March 2009, several Dickinson County lakes were to become protected under antidegradation regulations designed to maintain and protect high quality waters and existing water quality in other waterbodies from unnecessary pollution.. ...

(March 5, 1920 - July 26, 2009) Funeral services were held July 19 at the St. Louis Catholic Church in Royal for Violet M. Burns, 89, who passed away at her home in Everly on July 27, 2009 surrounded by her daughters after a courageous battle with cancer the past year.

Barrett, age 79, of Sioux Rapids, and formerly of Spirit Lake, and Indianapolis, Ind., who passed away on Saturday, July 18, 2009, at the St. Luke's Lutheran Home in Spencer.

Tonsfeldt, Mulder unite in marriage (08/05/09)
Dee Tonsfeldt and Ed Mulder, both of Spirit Lake, were married July 29 at Grace Lutheran Church in a private ceremony attended by their children and grandchildren. The wedding, which was officiated by Rev. David Cox, was followed by a reception and dinner at Minerva's.
