Glamor, glitz and grace combine with high school enthusiasm later this month as area schools host their annual junior/senior prom events. Graettinger/Terril kicked off the prom festivities with its "Night in Paris" event on April 4. On Saturday, April 25, Harris-Lake Park will bring students to "Sunset City" and Okoboji celebrates "Arabian Nights." Spirit Lake hosts the final prom of the season with "A Night in the Orient" on May 2.

(Sept. 7, 1939 - April 13, 2009) Funeral services were held Friday, April 17 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church for James "Jim" Lyle Manzer, 69, of Wahpeton, who passed away Monday, April 13 at the Longhouse Northshire Nursing Home in Spencer.

(Nov. 9, 1930 - April 10, 2009) A memorial service was held Wednesday, April 15 at the Nemaha Methodist Church for Donald "Donnie" Olsen, 78, of Spirit Lake, who passed away Friday, April 10 at Hilltop Care Center in Spirit Lake.

(Aug. 12, 1940 - April 11, 2009) A memorial service was held Monday, April 13 at the United Methodist Church in Spirit Lake for George Smith, 68, of Spirit Lake who passed away Saturday, April 11 at Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake.

Pursuit ends in arrest of Godfrey (04/22/09)
On Sunday, April 19 at approximately 12:17 a.m., the Spirit Lake Police Department attempted to make a traffic stop on a yellow 1984 Ford F-150. The vehicle failed to stop for officers and led them on a pursuit northbound on Highway 86 from Vick's Corner.
