On Friday, Feb. 19 Spirit Lake Police initiated a traffic stop on a Black GMC Sonoma. The vehicle was driven by 37-year-old, Timothy Mowery of Spirit Lake. Upon further investigation, it was determined that Mowery was intoxicated and subsequently placed under arrest for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. ...

Traffic stop leads to SL drug arrest

A routine traffice stop at approximately 7:22 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 4 led to the arrest of 29 year-old David Nathaniel Moore of Spirit Lake. Moore was driving a gray 2003 buick Rendezvous that authorities searched with a K9 unit, turning up a green leafy subnstance alleged to be marijuana and drug paraphanelia.

On Dec. 18 at approximately 4 p.m., a search of the residence of 607 Lake Street in Spirit Lake was conducted by the Spirit Lake Police Department. As a result of the search, the police arrested Kenneth Leroy Scott, 46, and Richelle Anne Evans, 41.

An accident last Thursday morning sent one individual to the hospital. At approximately 7:30 a.m. on Dec. 3, Arnolds Park Police were called to the intersection of Highway 71 and Dam Road for a collision. The Dickinson County Sheriff's Office arrested Johnathen Dreu Barber, 22, of rural Spirit Lake on Nov. 11, 2009. Barber was arrested by a Sheriff's Deputy in the 900 Block of Okoboji Ave in Milford for Public Intoxication and found to be in possession of controlled substances. Barber was booked into the Dickinson County Jail on charges of public intoxication,possession of a controlled substance

Shana Anderson, 30, of Spirit Lake, was arrested for unlawful use of drivers license and driving while suspended and cited for expired plates at 8:19 a.m. Oct. 20.

On Tuesday, Nov. 3 at approximately 12:57 a.m., Spirit Lake Police were advised of a theft that had just occurred at Hy-Vee in Spirit Lake. Officers were advised that two young males left the store with two cases of beer without paying for them.

On Monday, Oct. 19, at approximately 11:50 p.m., the Spirit Lake Police Department made a routine traffic stop on a maroon 1987 Pontiac Fiero. The Fiero was driven by 20-year-old Kelly Thompson, Jr. of Spirit Lake, and upon further investigation and search of the vehicle, a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana and drug paraphernalia were located inside the vehicle...

Two Michigan men were arrested Sunday, Sept. 20 following a report of a suspicious vehicle on private property. The Dickinson County Sheriff's Office was dispatched to the 2100 block of 160th Avenue at 3:35 p.m., where officers observed a marijuana-like substance inside the vehicle. A subsequent search revealed approximately 66 pounds of unprocessed marijuana plants.
Arrested were Joseph Lee Bates, 35, of Shelby, Mich. and Christopher Allen Bates, 23, of Muskegon, Mich.

The Dickinson County Sheriff's Office investigated a single vehicle accident Aug. 23 that occurred at 11:45 p.m. near the intersection of 280 Ave and 175 St. on the south side of Lily Lake.

On Aug. 24 at approximately 6:11 p.m., the Spirit Lake Police Department went to 606 Lake Street Apt. No. 8, reference a report of the aroma of burnt marijuana coming from the residence. A subsequent investigation ensued and a search of the residence revealed a green plant like material believed to be marijuana.

On Friday, Aug. 7 at approximately 2:43 a.m., Spirit Lake Police stopped a 1998 Acura Integra on Highway 9 for a traffic violation. After an investigation, it was determined the driver Elizabeth Jane Abbey of Prairie Village,Kan. was operating while intoxicated.

A one-vehicle crash sent a Kingsley man to the hospital shortly before midnight on Saturday. The driver, Scott Toliver, lost control of his truck at the the intersection of Rohr Street and Oak Street, Toliver hit two trees and took down a light pole. He was transported to Lakes Regional Healthcare with non-life threatening injuries. The Arnolds Park /Okoboji Rescue Department was assisted by the Iowa Highway Patrol, AP/Oko police, Milford Police, Milford Fire and Rescue, DNR, and the LRH Ambulance.

On Friday, June 19 at approximately 3:03 a.m., Spirit Lake Police were called to a disturbance in the 1300 block of Ithaca Avenue. Officers received a complaint of a male subject walking in the street yelling. Upon arrival, officers met with 38-year-old Jeremy Jay Smith of Brooklyn Park, Minn.

On Wednesday June 10 at approximately 11:28 p.m., Spirit Lake Police arrested two subjects at 2204 Gary Avenue on several charges. While at the residence for a complaint, police say they discovered several items of drug paraphernalia in plain view. The subjects, identified as 22-year-old Steven James Husaboe and 20-year-old Hayley Marie Tuinstra, both of Spirit Lake, were place under arrest. Further investigation showed there was a no contact order between the two subjects.

On Friday, May 1 at approximately 6:20 p.m., Spirit Lake Police stopped a green 1994 Plymouth Voyager on Highway 9 & 71 east of M56 for a traffic violation. After an investigation, it was determined that the driver, Alfred Libby Klein III, 23, of Dunnell, Minn. was intoxicated. Klein was placed under arrest.
