Dense freezing fog can make night travel more difficult in northwest Iowa, but under the right conditions, it can also add a beautiful white tint to the winter landscape. Sunday was an example of hoarfrost in the Iowa Great Lakes. The dew point fell well below 32 degrees and water vapor bypassed the liquid stage and landed on surfaces to create the beautiful ice crystals seen here.
