33rd Annual U of O Cycling Classic
The sounds of excitement echoed down the streets near Florence Park in Milford Saturday morning. Hundreds of cyclists slowly migrated to the starting area for the University of Okoboji’s 33rd Annual Cycling Classic Campus Bike Ride. The annual event featured 25, 50 and 100-mile routes. Proceeds from the ride went toward the Dickinson County Trails and other area projects. Matt Richter, of the Three Sons, welcomed all the cyclists shortly before the race began and reminded everyone the race was a friendly community ride. “The first five people to finish go to the back of the line, so enjoy the campus,” he said. The microphone was turned over to Herman Richter, who gave the official start for the riders. “Gentle people, start your bicycles,” he said. The cyclists pulled away in a procession set to the song “Bicycle Race” by Queen.
