It's sometimes amazing what one can do in an afternoon. This one would have looked great in color, but there wasn't quite enough time to get it done and sent down to the Spencer Daily Reporter. Personal feelings aside, the "Heartbeat Bill" put Gov. Reynolds in a difficult place. You see, the individual legislators would likely have been affected very little regardless of which way the governor chose to act, especially those here in northwest Iowa. But the governor herself will bear the ire of the state's Democrats as she tries to maintain seat she inherited from Terry Branstad. That said, other Republican members of the state Legislature may see the trickle-down effect in their own districts.
And then there's the possibility of a law suit to consider.
