I recently saw a someone post a sculpture of the Roman god Janus, in honor of January. Janus was the two-headed god of transitions, beginnings and ends, all those sorts of things. He was able to look both backward and ahead simultaneously. As poet as that seems on its own, it was also full of potential for a cartoon this week, given the split between Trump and former advisor Steve Bannon. Eventually, a simple profile shot melding the two figures into a modern Janus evolved into a breaking White House being driven apart by a relatively small wedge in the form of Michael Wolff's book "Fire and Fury," which the president claims is full of lies.
Naturally, I let Trump have the "West Wing" for now (though the flag a top the White House is signaling distress while it falls).
