This particular cartoon has been sitting in a pile of unused panels that's occupied two desks in a little less than a year's time. It was made back when I was still pulling 8.5 by 11 sheets of paper out of the copier tray to work on and had a bundle of ink pens at my desk to craft my visual puns by hand. The original prompt came after my coverage of this city council meeting in Spencer. The thought was, if the issue persisted, we'd run a parody of the popular mobile games "Angry Birds."
But it didn't.
That is until recently. While I was gathering comments for my original story, the post office was very reluctant to say how often dogs are a problem for carriers in Spencer. Apparently, it's a common enough problem to enact a new policy this year. So, out comes the old hand-made, ink-penned panel - all digitally scanned with a fresh coat of digital color.
Sometimes it pays to keep your desk drawers little cluttered.
