For anyone that has been following along with these blogs and saw what the governor recently announced, I’m sure you know what I’m going to be writing about today — softball!
Gov. Kim Reynolds gave the okay for us to play! Not long after, the boys association and girls union gave their approval too. Right now, it looks like practice will start on June 1, and games starting June 15, with more guidelines still to come.
For me, this has been a major break up of the COVID blues.
It seemed like it was one thing after another getting cancelled, and not just for me but for everyone — prom, tennis, U of O events, RAGBRAI, concerts and many more. I have hoped and prayed for this day for quite some time and I’m extremely grateful and feel very blessed for this opportunity to play. I know many are missing out on the events they were expecting to end their high school career on and it's hard. I have always planned on ending it on the softball field, which we have been given an opportunity to do.
I can’t wait to take the field with my teammates, get a chance to grow so close to an amazing group of girls, and embrace every single second of this season. I know my last ride will be a season like no other, not just because of the guidelines we will have to follow, but because I think we all are realizing just how blessed we are to be able to take the field together. My main goals for the season are to enjoy every moment and take nothing for granted.
If I’ve learned one thing during this pandemic, it's that we never know when the things we enjoy can be taken away, so don’t take them for granted.
