Graduation Day! Well, it was supposed to be.
Today, we were supposed to walk across the stage and receive our diplomas that we have worked for 12 years to get. It was supposed to be one last time that the SLHS Class of 2020 was all together. It’s a day many have been dreaming of since at least freshman year. Instead, I spent the day working, got my haircut and watched the awards night video. I don’t think I’ve been so excited for a haircut! I continue to be thankful for all of these people that are working at the service of others.
Like many other things, awards night looked very different. There was no gathering of people or presentations in the Sami Center. Instead, it was filmed with the help of many people and businesses and released Sunday at 1 p.m. — the time of our original graduation.
In talking with some of my friends today via social media, I think we all agreed that it was hard to not be surrounded by our friends and classmates on this day we have had marked on our calendars for so long. We continue to be hopeful for a graduation ceremony in June. I know some celebrated today with cake, gifts and pictures in their cap and gown. This is another thing that we have added to our list of things we will talk about for years to come!
