By Karli Olsen — Spirit Lake High School
Well, here I am, taking a break from studying for my last final. At 11 a.m. Friday morning, my high school education will officially be wrapped up. Everyone always says that high school flies by and they sure aren’t lying. Coronavirus or not, this chapter of my life was going to come to end at some point. It provided an alternate ending to the chapter than what anyone was expecting, but here we are.
Instead of attending my other classes and sporting events, I spent the day studying in my hammock, taking in some vitamin D, going for a run, working, and even got in on some gardening. My COVID-19 takeaway from today is a thankful heart for the time it has given me. I have learned so many life lessons that I wouldn’t have learned without this slowed down pace of life. Things like jump-starting a car, tips and tricks to planting flowers and vegetables, cooking (beyond just basic meals), and appliance shopping. All of these are things I think I have overlooked but will come in handy someday when I leave the nest here at home.
