The second semester hasn't really gone as I had planned and that's what I am here to talk about. At the beginning of this quarantine business, I was like, "Oh heck yeah. No school? Yeah, I'm here for that."
That's definitely not how it went.
When Gov. Reynolds came out with the announcements, I was at work and everyone was in shock. No school for four weeks? How could that even happen? At Okoboji, they didn’t do required online learning, but teachers would post stuff still to keep kids updated if they wanted to read the material or whatnot.
The first week of quarantine was pretty rough. I have split families, so I would still switch from parent to parent every week. The first week, the weather was awful and dreary so you were literally cooped up inside. I think I watched every single movie on Disney+ that week — and, no, that is not an exaggeration.
My little sister forced us to do lots of games consisting of Charades, The Game of Life and Hedbanz. One night we even Zoomed with my older sister, uncle, and their families. We played a British trivia game that no one but my mom and her brother knew the answers to (so it was rigged).
The poor weather spilled into the next week and I think I was going insane. At this point, I think I cleaned and reorganized my room four times a day. This may sound bad, but since the beginning of quarantine my best friend was at my house 24/7. We basically told everyone we lived together. We got really addicted to doing puzzles and taking up art. She's good at it, I am, in fact, not good at it. We even made ourselves work out a bit. That means that we go on bike rides and shoot hoops occasionally. Except the bike ride was long and made me sore so I told her we couldn’t do that anymore.
We are now on Week 6 — I think? I thank God every day for the good weather. I’ve been able to get outside and enjoy the fresh air. We even like to have mini photoshoots in the grove and such. Which makes Magan think she is a professional photographer and boosts her confidence a little bit. My sisters and I like to go on walks and take our dogs for a run around the gravel roads. As of today, I have found myself watching a lot of Grey's Anatomy and eating too much food from the kitchen.
With all that being said, I am so happy to be here documenting my journey over the next month or so for everyone to read! Stay safe, clean, and happy!
