BY REV. MARTIN LUCIN -- GRACE LUTHERAN CHURCH
We are saved by our faith. Just a tiny bit of faith will produce miracles. That's what the Gospel is all about!
The cry of that man who encountered the Lord, crying, "Lord, I believe! Help my unbelief!" (Mark 9:24) is our cry. But it is a mistake to think that faith must be of the spectacular variety in order to be valid. Why is it so hard for us to grasp that just a little faith is all we need?
A scientist once explained why the United States fell behind in its first space probes while the Russians took the lead: "To escape completely from the earth's gravitational field, a rocket must attain a speed which, in round figures, is 25,000 miles an hour. The first Army and Air Force shots missed the crucial figure by only about two percent, but that was enough. Then came the Russian moon prose, which beat the crucial figure by about the slim margin, and that was enough to take it not merely to the moon, but, at the extreme end of its orbit, around the sun, more than 200 million miles from earth, or almost 1,000 times as far away as the moon."
Can you believe it? We were behind by just two percent, but that tiny gap was enough to delay our efforts for some time.
Jesus says that even a little faith is enough to receive God's blessings. Do you believe that? Well, then, come and see for yourself 6 p.m. Wednesdays, 5:30 p.m. Saturdays or 10 a.m. Sundays at Grace Lutheran Church in Spirit Lake.
GRACE: it's for me, it's for you, it's for everyone!
