I have noticed through my walk with the Lord through the last 22 years that God seems to use a lot of Gideon's of this world to do extraordinary things.
If you are not aware of who Gideon is his story begins in the old testament book of Judges Chapter 7:
An angel of the Lord spoke to Gideon in verse 12 and said to him "The Lord is with you, you mighty man of valor." This statement really rattled Gideon. He began to backpedal and tell the Lord a whole lot of excuses like "I am the smallest and the least of my tribe, our enemies are too strong and I am too weak to lead people, and I am surely not a mighty man of valor, you got the wrong guy!"
I love how the Lord sees potential in all people and calls things as he sees them rather than how we see ourselves. I can identify with Gideon, because I am like him. When the Lord called me into ministry, I did many of the same things, I can't speak in front of people, I am uneducated, you must have made a mistake, you got the wrong guy!
But God saw beyond my flaws and had a far greater plan that I could ever see or fathom. See, when I was in early grade school I was the class clown. One day in class my teacher, in front of all my classmates, told me "I would never amount to anything in my life."
Those words were deeply imbedded into my life as a result, I never took a book home all through the rest of grade school, middle school or high school. I simply coasted through just barely even making it.
When the Lord called me into ministry at the age of 29, he called me to preach. Two years later, he called me to Bible College and I reminded him he had the wrong guy. I could barley spell and cannot write in cursive anymore.
I proceeded to tell him I hated school and told him what my teacher had told me 22 years earlier. See folks, God says he takes the foolish things of this world (that's me) to confound the wise.
I love when he picks the underdogs. If you have read the Bible any, Jesus chose tax collectors, fisherman and uneducated people -- with the exception of Paul -- to do extraordinary things to confound the wise.
Jesus sees beyond our faults failures inadequacies, and says "that is the one I want to use and prove I am God." Well, the good news is, Gideon turned into the mighty man God called him to be, because who God calls he equips.
God built a very small group of inadequate people of 300 to fight for him and empowered them to defeat the enemies of Israel, he took the least and got the most. My story has been; God took a broken down uneducated long haired drunk biker. Called me, equipped me and empowered me to go through Bible College. I graduated with a 3.7 GPA to the glory of God! He did it through me. I have had the pleasure of planting a church in Chicago suburbs for 10 years and seen hundreds of lives come to Christ. I have had the privilege to Pastor Spirit Life fellowship now for seven years and have seen many lives changed. God is still using the Gideon's of this world, if he can use me; just think what God can do through you!
