Wayne Johnson, president of the University of Okoboji Corvette Club, is busy making arrangement for a new and different Vettes in the Park event this summer. Due to the pandemic, the two-day event will be one day only – Saturday, July 25. "It will be sort of Vettes in the Park but not really," he said with a chuckle, "and it will be just Corvettes." Owners will be able to drive their classic vehicles to The Park but will not be parked there for two days. According to Johnson, the club will release the final plans next week for the July 25 happening.
I was saddened to hear Art in the Park has been cancelled for this summer by the staff at the Pearson Lakes Art Center. I am sure it was a difficult decision for Visual Arts Director Danielle Clouse Gast and her crew to make. They welcome around 100 artists who set up tents on Preservation Plaza to display their creations each summer. It would be hard to distance yourself at an event like that. I am sure they were concerned for both their artists and the public. We will look forward to Art in the Park returning next year!
Live music returned to the amusement park area over the holiday weekend. Thursday evening, Boon, Lambert and Wendy entertained for Rock the Patio. While Boon and Lambert are locals, Wendy Gordy made the trip down from north of the Twin Cities to join the guys. She is a talented singer and songwriter. Lambert’s sister, she fits right in with their banter.
Jason Walsmith of The Nadas, came from Des Moines to open the Live on Lake Street series of concert/dances Friday night. He really knows how to relate to his audience and everyone had a great time. Some people got up from their chairs to dance on the street. I think more will dance once they get the idea of how a street dance is supposed to work.
Vic Ferrari Band will play on Preservation Plaza Saturday evening. Don’t forget your lawn chairs. Terry Klein will Rock the Patio on Thursday (tonight) while Live on Lake Street Friday will feature Rock ala Carte. Lots of great music to look forward to this weekend!
