The month of June is flying by at, what seems to me, a record pace. Okoboji Summer Theatre is off to a fantastic start. Boji Bantam is in its first production of the summer, "Treasure Island."
Rehearsals are in full swing for the opening show at Treasure Village Family Theatre. Linnea Lambert and Deb Clark are busy putting the finishing touches on "Pinocchio" that will open next Tuesday. The gals are sisters and grew up living and learning on the Treasure Village grounds north of Milford. They are excited about this season and I know several kids who are too.
Both big bands and Rock the Roof are busy weekly. I drove down by The Park Saturday night, thinking I might like to sit and listen to Hairball. Preservation Plaza was packed! I couldn’t even find a parking space so gave up and went home. If the crowds from Memorial weekend to now are any indication, it is going to be a good summer for everyone in the Iowa Great Lakes Region.
Our law enforcement, first responders and firefighters deserve a huge pat on the back for the tremendous job they do trying to keep us all safe during the very crowded summer months. Thank you to each and every one of you!
Did you get the chance to see one of the performances by The Headliners? These guys come here every year to teach our young musicians how to enjoy and perform jazz at the Reggie Schive Jazz Camp. Then they play at various venues around the area in the evenings. Members of the Headliners include: Roger Neumann from Los Angeles, CJ Kocher from Vermillion, South Dakota; Michael Gurciullo and Joey Gulizia from Omaha, Nebraska; Dan Cassady from Iowa City; Tony Gulizia of Vail, Colorado; Andy Hall from Lincoln, Nebraska and Scott Hesse of Chicago. Not only are they each a talented musician, they obviously have a great time playing together. Hope to see you again next year!
Paitra Babb has returned to the Lakes Area. She told me she fell in love with the area when she was a student at Stephens College and came to perform at the Okoboji Summer Theatre. She is now a teaching artist and director with the TRYPS Institute. Paitra came back for the summer to direct all four plays at the Boji Bantam Theatre so her work began in earnest this past week. Welcome back Paitra!
If you have a reunion, family party or special event coming up this summer, let me know. Email the information to firstname.lastname@example.org or give me a call at 712-320-2850.
Chat with you again next week!
