I got several messages and phone calls attempting to identify our 'aging' dancer at Rock the Roof. They came in from near and far. I had the pleasure of meeting the gentleman the other night. His name is Claude Hone and he lives in Sioux Falls. He must be spending the summer here as he rarely misses Rock the Roof each Thursday evening. He is 96 years young and dances up a storm every week. He was a Marine Corps fighter pilot in World War II. Hone is a real estate agent in Sioux Falls. Apparently South Dakota requires realtors to be licensed and each is given a number. It seems appropriate to me Claude's is No. 1. There probably isn't an agent older than he is in the entire state. When I asked him if he is still selling real estate he said, "Of course, why not!" I want to thank Barbara Lancaster from Arnolds Park for the photo you see here. It taken on stage last Thursday night of Claude with entertainer Terry Klein during the Elvis Night show. It was great meeting you, Claude!
Richie Lee is coming to perform at Rock the Roof next Thursday. His full name is Richie Lee Luckinbill and he lives in Des Moines. Although he is a very well known entertainer all over the state, many of you may not know of his area ties. His mother was Nancy Paul before she married Richard. She grew up in Spencer. This will be his first Rock the Roof performance since he lost his grandmother Edie Paul last winter. Welcome back, Richie.
Bob and Nancy Lathrop of Arnolds Park are celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary. That will bring their family here from all over. They are the sweetest, nicest people. I send out sincere congratulations to them both!
Owen and Beth Primavera live on the north end of West Lake Okoboji. He was the science teacher when my kids went to school in Milford. This couple took many high school students (mine included) on summer trips all over the United States. The kids, now in their 40's, still reminisce about those wonderful, educational trips. I had the pleasure of chaperoning one of them and my ex-husband did two or more. Owen and Beth were a delight to travel with. They are now celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary and I send out heartiest congratulations to them from everyone in our family. Thanks for the wonderful memories.
Berkley Bedell celebrated his 95th birthday this year. There was a gathering in his honor recently while he was here briefly from his current home in Florida. He was our representative in Congress at one time and the founder of what is now Pure Fishing. Sorry that his wife Eleanor was unable to make the trip with him. I still miss seeing them every opening night at Okoboji Summer Theatre. Its been a few years since they moved south permanently. Happy birthday, Berk!
