The Milford Class of '76 had a reunion. Several of the class and guests were spotted on the lawn of Eric and Diane Wahlman watching the Pioneer Days Parade on Saturday. Class reunions are such a wonderful opportunity to catch up with old friends.
Another type of reunion that is always a great time is a family reunion. The large Williams Family got together again. Family members came from as far away as Australia and Hawaii. There were 90 members of the Williams Family in attendance. When I lived on the farm, that sweet mom Jessie Williams was my neighbor. She later moved into Milford so son Wendell and his wife Chris became my neighbors. I got a chance to meet several members of that family and what a special group of people they are!
Bryan Traughber, son of Larry and Betty Traughber of West Okoboji, was spotted out and about over Pioneer Days. I am sure his folks were glad he came back to visit!
My sincerest congratulations to Aubrey LaFoy of Arnolds Park. He was selected as a 2016 Iowan of the Day by the Iowa State Fair Blue Ribbon Foundation. His special day at the state fair will be Friday, Aug. 12. You all know him from the columns he writes each week in the Okobojian and several books he has written about the history of the Iowa Great Lakes Region. I am blessed to know him as a dear friend for many years. He is a World War II veteran and all-around nice person who cares about people and his roots here in this area. I agree with the person who nominated him for the honor, Sandra Sykes. I can't think of anyone who deserves the honor more!
I just found out last night that there has been an addition to the fabulous Iowa RockNRoll Hall of Fame concert lineup. That concert will launch the 20th anniversary year for the association. Two of the first bands to be inducted into that Hall of Fame will play on that Roof Garden stage again on Sunday night of Labor Day weekend. Those two bands are The Velaires from Sioux City (Roll Over Beethoven) and Dee Jay & the Runaways (Peter Rabbit). Although Dan and Dick Matousek and Bob Dawdy of the Velaires have passed away, it will be awesome to see and hear the rest of them, along with the originals' replacements perform once again. The Runaways just did their 50th reunion concert a week or so ago and we know they can still rock with the best of them! It is sure to bring back some great memories for many, many people.
