The Spirit Lake Blue Zones Committee is to be commended for all the hard work they put into attaining the Blue Zone Community status for the town. The celebration is on Friday ... not Saturday as I mistakenly wrote in the article in this week's Dickinson County News. Free movie, popcorn, bottled water, face painting, games are all included in the celebration starting at 7:30 Friday evening. It will be a fun time for everyone. They all deserve to party hearty at Memorial Park tonight (Friday). Congratulations to the residents of Spirit Lake!
How many of you got to catch the show in The Lounge at The Inn At Okoboji Wednesday night? The entertainers were the Three K's. I really enjoy Millie Kittleson, one of the K's. This incredibly talented lady turned 90 on June 17 and is still going strong. Kittleson used to entertain all over the country, traveling with Roy Acuff and the Grand Ole Opry. She still makes several appearances a year. Her show at The Inn included her niece, Billye Jane (Kittleson) Kruse and nephew Bryon Kittleson. She enjoys entertaining with family. Bryon and Billye get tremendous joy out of performing with their aunt. Millie lives south of Sherburn just across the Iowa line in Minnesota. Keep up the awesome performing Millie! See you again soon.
Happy anniversary to Larry and Dee Truman of Milford. They are having a big party at the VFW in Spirit Lake on Friday night (Aug. 21). It is also Larry's birthday. With food and dancing plus lots of friends and family; the party will be a happy memory for the couple.
Dawn (Tingle) Hughes and her two youngsters are visiting with Mick and Karleen Noteboom in Milford this week. They made the trip from Davenport to have some fun in the Lakes Area before school goes back into session. Grandma and Grandpa Noteboom enjoy doing a wide variety of fun activities with them each summer and this week is no exception.
It doesn't seem possible that the summer will soon be over. I know the staff and board of the Iowa RockNRoll Music Association are very busy preparing for the 2015 Hall of Fame Induction Spectacular to take place. A concert on Friday night, Battle of the Bands Saturday afternoon, awards ceremony and concert on Sunday plus several other events for the public to enjoy are on this year's schedule. One of my favorites is the guitar marching band on Saturday morning at 9 a.m. No where else in the United States can you see young and old alike, marching down the street strumming guitars and singing "Louie, Louie" at the top of their lungs. It is so much fun. I suggest you get to a viewing spot along Lake Street from the State Pier to the front of the music museum to witness this one of a kind event that is part of the opening ceremonies for Hall of Fame Weekend. If you would like to participate, be sure to be at the State Pier between 8:30 and 8:45 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 5.
