Mary Kennedy of West Okoboji let me know how excited she is to be having special company. Capt. Steve's brother John Kennedy and family (wife Judy, daughter Julie, son Jay, granddaughter Taylor) will be here for a week, the end of July into August. Jay will be participating in the University of Okoboji Open Water Swim on Aug. 1. Julie will be celebrating a big birthday and Taylor just turned 10. They will be boating in their restored 1954 Hafer which resides in the Maritime Museum except when they are here and then it goes into the lake. Mary's daughter Elizabeth and husband Phil Albert will be here for a few days during that time as well. Phil also celebrated the big 5-0 birthday this month. I am sure they will all have a glorious time and Mary is in seventh heaven!
I happened to be at the right place at the right time to witness a romantic event last week. We were all dining and dancing at Table 316, having the usual Wednesday night good time when Rich Meyer from Harris proposed to Jeanette Nance from Spirit Lake. The room was filled with people who cheered and clapped loudly as she said yes. It was fun and I send out my congratulations to the happy couple! They had both lost their spouses and found each other through music and dancing. As you can see, it is a very romantic story.
I received a note from former Lakes Area resident Karla Eberly. She now lives in Minnetonka, Minnesota. She and I are both Everly High School graduates; me in 1964 and she in 1965. The Class of '65 is holding their big reunion on Aug. 7 & 8. She plans their class get-togethers and I plan ours. So we compared notes. They are going to have such a good time and I am sure they still are capable of partying hearty. One party will be at The Ranch in Everly and one at Norm Sindt's farm outside of town about a mile. A tour of the Classic Car Museum here in West Okoboji is also on their itinerary for Saturday afternoon. I hope they all have a wonderful time. I know we sure did last year.
A reunion also takes place next Thursday night when Generations of RockNRoll play at Rock the Roof in Arnolds Park. Generations is a band formed by three bands: DJ & the Runaways, The Senn Menn and BB & the Bullfrogs. For a few years they toured Iowa, Southwest Minnesota and East River South Dakota but haven't performed together for quite some time. Between the three bands there are several outstanding musicians who love and respect each other as well as love to entertain an audience. It will be such fun to see and hear them again! If we play our cards right, we will get to hear Tyler do "Unchained Melody" again too!
Are you planning any wedding, anniversary, birthday celebrations or reunions? If you are having special guests, class reunions, or other celebrations and events this summer, let me know. We all enjoy knowing what is going on and who is coming to visit. My phone number is 712-320-2850 or send me an email at email@example.com. Thanks!
