Grandchildren

Posted Sunday, June 28, 2009, at 2:40 PM

Our house is very quiet as three of our grandchildren left yesterday. Sonja was here at Golf Camp at Emerald Hills and Ed helped out due to a back problem. Our Granddaughter, Becca, also came down to take them home. She had just got back from a "dig" in Israel. We compared notes and she told us a great deal of her stay there. Sonja had fun at the golf camp and Ed helped me stain the deck on our townhouse. The kids went swimming but I didn't. Will have to go there soon.

Saturday morning I attended the OPA (Okoboji Protective Association) meeting at Lakeside Lab. I have been on the board for over 30 years. We are doing today what we only dreamed of years ago. Phil Peterson is president and he is a gogetter. The problems today are milfoil and zebra mussels. The zebra mussels have got into Clear Lake and it is a mess. No way to get rid of them except drain the lake??? We are lucky so far but need volunteers at the boat ramps.

The other problem is over 100 years old and that is the high water mark. People forget this is a natural lake and can be high and can be low. White Bear Lake is very low this year due to lack of rain. Our son Randy lives there. People have built on Lower Gar Lake and I can recall that during the 1930 is was almost dry. People want to play God just like the global warming. I always say , "Do you know the big island of the NE coast of North American? It is called Greenland and not because the ice is green it was becaause in the late 1400 and early 1500 is was populated by people who farmed and the land was Green. The people who push for globel warming should study history and not think they are God and can chang the climate. Sure there are polution problems but they have little to do with the warming. People in Iowa last winter didn't think we were warming up much. Enough, will get off my soapbox.
