The Dickinson County Court House Committee has a collection of wonderful photos from our county past. Supervisor Pam Jordon has asked me to help identfy some. One of the photos was a America Legion Baseball team. Searching my memory I recall that my father Ray LaFoy) was involved with this team either as a coach or as Commander of the Milford American Legion about 1928. I had given the photo to Virgil Wahlman (Mayor of Miford) to see if any at the BuyRite knew who they were. He came back that Jerry Clark of Clark's Museum knew. So I went out to the Museum but the photo that Jerry had was a 1929 Milford Legion team. Some of the same young fellows were in both and I knew who many were. One was Hankins. Yesterday and son of this Hankins came to the Clark's Museum and wanted to see that pcture. Jerry had hundreds of photos but of all things that was the one. I made a copy and gave Jerry back his photo.
I am writing this as through the years story after story keeps popping up just like this. Probably why I never get tired of writing about the history of the Iowa Great Lakes. History is fun, entertaining and mystry after mystry keeps showing up. Be sure to look at the wonderful photos in the new Dickinson County Court House. |
