This weekend 5.22.09 - 5.25.09 Memorial DayPosted Thursday, May 21, 2009, at 4:12 PM
The key thing to having a good, fun date Memorial Day weekend is plan ahead. If you are going somewhere for dinner that takes reservations, make a reservation. Plan ahead and avoid the relationship stress of NOT being able to get in somewhere on this busy weekend. Traffic on Hwy 71 is going to be nuts so do allow extra time for that.
Everybody eats lunch, (breakfast for those of us that were out last night) around noon. If you get to your spot a little before or a while after, you won't have to wait for a table/food. The Barefoot Bar, the deck at The Ritz, and the boat at Okoboji Boat Works are all great places to hang out in the afternoon. This is also the weekend of 5th Annual Great Okoboji Wing Ding. The party starts at 5 p.m. Sunday. Area residents and restaurants showcase their talent at cooking chicken wings. If you get into the spicy wings, (or you just need one) cold beer, mixed drinks, etc. will be available. Damon Dotson and his band will be playing. Tickets available for wings on site. Concert is free. Stacy Rosemore for Okoboji tourism invites everyone to please come enjoy the festivities!! "Matt the definition of a $50 cover charge is this; we are too busy, we don't have room for you, but if you want to pay us $50 to get in, great; we will take your money have a nice night." -Kurt, Your Friendly Police Officer It is economics 101, supply and demand, there is only so much room in these bars, and demand is through the roof. When you think from the owner's perspective it does make sense. Your best bet in the evening is to pick the spot you and your date, friends, are going to. Get there before 9. By 10 it is going to be hopping and cover charge will jump exponentially as the evening goes along. Comments Showing comments in chronological order [Show most recent comments first] |
