The Bachelorette PartyPosted Sunday, May 10, 2009, at 3:55 PM
Yes, it has started again. If you are a regular on the bar scene in Okoboji you know about the bachelorette parties that roll through Okoboji every summer. Ladies, I'm sure there are bachelor parties too, but I normally don't pay attention to those. Guys, when dealing with a bachelorette party, the best thing to do is apply the Richter Fun Rule #6;
(Fun People) + (Fun People) + (Fun People) = "A more fun time had by all." If you run into a bachelorette party that is not having a good time, this is a serious red flag. Watch out. Each bachelorette party is different so you need to be quick on your feet. The key thing is to keep the bride-to-be happy. Make sure she thinks she is the center of attention. Also identify the "ring leader" of the group; this is another person you need to keep happy. The minute one of girls in the party thinks you are taking attention away from the bride-to-be, the gig is up. They will make a huge scene for the sake of making a huge scene, and quite possibly unite against you. Once you have established yourself as part of the group fun, make sure you watch out for wedding rings, and girls that already have a boyfriend. Most of these parties are from out of town, so have a list of basic simple questions ready to roll; i.e. "where is home for you?" If you know anything about where they are from, ask them a follow up. "Where have you been, what have you done today?" Listen to them. Key thing here is to start conversation, but make sure the bride-to-be still feels like the center of attention. One way to score huge points is that time in the evening when the bachelorette party has gotten out of control. You may be at a Fish Heads concert and they start singing about "Miss Pac-Man," the bride-to-be gets on stage and you find yourself thinking, "I will be able to find this on YouTube in 10 minutes." At this point, the offer/suggestion of public transportation home goes a long way. Closing the deal. Here you have to call the ball. Do you ask for their number, or do you give them yours? Personal choice, it is up to you. Easiest closing line is "I had a great time tonight, hope you will get in touch with me next time you are in town." If you land a date to the wedding, call it a success. |
