Aerobic or AnaerobicPosted Monday, May 4, 2009, at 11:51 AM
This week I am going to tell you exactly which respiration system (Aerobic or Anaerobic) is the best for you!!
The aerobic respiration requires oxygen in order to generate energy. Simply saying when you are using aerobic metabolism your cells are burning stored energy and simple carbs it has stored. Where, anaerobic respiration refers to the oxidation of molecules in the absence of oxygen to produce energy. Basically when you move into anaerobic metabolism your body dips into fat reserves (as well as a few other sources) to provide energy to the metabolizing muscles.
The benefits of an aerobic activity are that increases your cardiovascular endurance and decreases body fat.The downside is that it decreases muscle mass, speed and power. Because when the body uses fat for energy it also breaks down muscle.
Now the benefits of an anaerobic activity is that increases cardiovascular capacity, your recovery ability, strength, power, speed and it decreases body fat.The downside is that people who are untrained have a high potential for injury and it requires a good aerobic foundation. So which one is the best?! BOTH OF THEM!...training both respiration systems is the best for your fitness level. By doing a combination of the two in your routine you will burn fat, maintain muscle and add some variation to your workouts.
Remember to always train all of the elements of fitness, which are: * Endurance * Strength * Flexibility * Power * Speed * Agility * Balance |
