Embrace the Rainy DaysPosted Wednesday, June 10, 2009, at 11:17 AM
"Excuse me. Is this the Chamber of Commerce?" asks the friendly lady
"Yes it is. What can we help you with?" was our response. "Well, I would like to make a complaint" With smiles on our faces our stomachs go in knots because complaints are never fun to handle and of course we want to make all of our visitors and residents happy. "My complaint is this weather. Can't you do something about it?" then she starts to chuckle. We all laugh as well. Phew - survived that one! That brings me to my point. Why do we consistently complain about the weather? We are all guilty of it and unfortunately there is nothing we can do to control it. Wouldn't it be nice if we had that ability? Instead of complaining about the chilly, rainy weather why not embrace it? The Iowa Great Lakes Area has MANY rainy day activities for people to enjoy. There is no need to say cooped up in your home or hotel room - go play! Assuming its not raining you can still participate in many outdoor activities: biking, kayaking, boating, fishing, golfing, etc. Take advantage of the beautiful trails system, lakes, and golf courses! The area is also rich in history. Check out one of the many museums in the area - Maritime Museum, Abbie Gardner Cabin, Clark Museum, Iowa Rock n Roll Museum, Higgins Museum, Dickinson County Museum, and the Pearson Lakes Art Center. A couple other hidden gems to enjoy are the Superior 71 Drive In Theatre, Little Swan Lake Winery, and all the gift shops throughout the area. While I am sitting at my desk today bummed about the doom and gloom I remind myself - I cannot control the overcast, chilly weather, but that shouldn't stop my day. Enjoy the secrets our area has to offer whether it is 50 degrees and overcast or 80 degrees with clear blue skies. -Stacy :) Comments Showing comments in chronological order [Show most recent comments first] |

I agree Stacy! I open up The Wine Bar for Saturday afternoons on cold and rainy days in the summer. Our hours are only at night, but we find some make the best day out of rainy days!
