Sad Red Eyes...

Posted Monday, July 27, 2009, at 10:35 AM

I recently went to one of my favorite watering holes for dinner and was greeted at the door by a red eyed, mumbling woman stumbling out the door while trying to talk on her cell phone. Oh, someone just got dumped! I thought, because really, why else would you cry in a bar? Bars are like Disney Land for grown ups!

After navigating around the sad girl my friends and I snagged a table, ordered some beer and the most delicious super nachos around! While waiting for our food to arrive we couldn't help but overhear the conversation of another very sad girl sitting just behind us. She too had been dumped, but not by a boy. By one of her "best friends!" What I heard went a little something like this:

"And then she just left me. She said she needed some time to go look at the shops. She needed some TIME!!! I would never do that to her. I would NEVER tell her that I needed some time to look at shops AWAY from her. Friends don't do that. I didn't even know anything was wrong until she just said she needed some time."

Mind you, this girl wasn't left alone. She was at a table with 5 other people all focused on her. Unfortunately one person, her so-called "best friend" had left her for 30 minutes to buy a t-shirt. What is the world coming to that would cause a "best friend" to leave her drunken friend at a bar with lesser friends to continue drinking while she went shopping? Honestly, I think our society is crumbling! It's tragic!

Enter drunk sad girl number one. She was back and she wasn't on the phone anymore. I think her eyes were still red but it was hard to tell because they were closed most of her walk back to her table. I think it might have been an exercise to experience life as a blind person OR it could have been too bright for her blood shot eyes to focus. Perhaps she was having a contact malfunction in both eyes. She zig zagged back to her table but was too far away for me to hear what the drama was, sadly.

Perhaps drunk girl number one and the girl who got dumped by her best friend can join forces and share a beer. Ahhh, only in a perfect world!

Becky - this is some of the funniest stuff I have read in long time. I think you need to find a publisher. :)
