What Are The Words To That Song?Posted Friday, May 8, 2009, at 12:17 PM
The other night I got together with a group of friends for dinner. This is an activity I LOVE for 2 reasons. 1.) I don't have to clean the dishes after I cook. 2.) My friends always put a smile on my face. This particular night at dinner was quite amusing. My friend requested that if I ever talk about her in a blog I refer to her as, "Hollow Fat GRRL." I believe the GRRL is supposed to be combination of a growl and the word girl. In shock, I asked her why she would ever want to be called that. Her response, "It's the words in that song I really like. You know the one!" I did not know the one. I had no idea what song she was talking about and the blank look on my face told that fact... so she started humming the song until she got to the words, "you ain't no hollow fat girl! You ain't hollow fat girl!.." I couldn't help but start laughing because the song she was singing was none other then Gwen Stefani's "Hollaback Girl" from 2004, which goes a little something like this:
All the girls stomp your feet like this. This incident reminded me of a time I listened to a group of college girls right here in Iowa dissecting the lyrics to FloRida's song "Low." I'd like to share that with you now for your amusement. I've included the actual words of the chorus so you can follow along:
Shawty had them Apple Bottom Jeans ( Jeans)
Them baggy sweat pants
First they start humming the song. Then they start filling in the words.

Becky -- Wow. That is good. Similar experience with "Hollaback." Winter Follies talent show, 3 years ago, Winter Games. Four girls in the fourth grade entered "Hall of that girl." Even the judges didn't know what the song was till it started. . . . . Mom, Dad, Grandma, Grandpa, all these families in the crowd. Four 10 year old girls on stage, and they get to the part of the song where they talk about Banana's. Needless to say, measures have been taken to make sure this never happens again, but it was priceless.
